Rise of the Dragons

Long ago, there were thousand upon thousands of dragons. They populated the land just as much as man did.
Some wished only for peace, living in the mountaintops or even deep within forests, killing only beasts, never man.
Others....were more destructive. They fed on fear, slaughtering entire villages without remorse. The worst of these...was known as Drekavac. A monstrous creature, devoid of all emotions and huge in size - his scales resembled the blackest of nights, with piercing red eyes that were said to gaze into your very soul. Drekavac was by far the most feared of all dragonkin, and no one could stop his reign of terror.
Until the fateful day when a group of warriors that would later be known as the Purifiers decided to scale the mountain on which Drekavac was said to live. It was brutally cold, the highest point that man knew, and it is said that they were gone for many months before the day it finally happened.
From the very top of the mountain, there was a deafening scream that could only be described as monstrous. Down fell Drekavac from his sanctuary, his once mighty wings completely torn from his body. His body hit the cold hard ground underneath the mountain with a large BOOM, and it was then that a crack appeared from underneath of him. Slowly, it spread until it broke the earth in two, a deep chasm that went to the center of the earth.
The dragons, realizing that Drekavac had been killed, flew down into the cracks, forever hidden. No one ever saw the heroes that had slain the awful dragon again...and anything to do with dragons became valuables, artifacts to be coveted - and the most coveted of all would be their eggs. No one knew if they could hatch without adult dragons to protect them...so they were gathered, sold, traded, treated as the highest of all currencies. The mountain, the site of the crash? It was then named Drekavac's Descent.
Decades later - humans, not knowing of the abnormally long gestation period of the eggs, kept them in their homes. A few hatched, finding love from young humans that could understand them, that treated them as one of their own.
It is now that our story takes place, nearly 40 years since the mighty Drekavac was vanquished. Both the humans...and their dragons are grown. With a looming evil spreading across the world, who will rise up to save it?

History: Yumi is a young witch in training, studying the art of magic and in particular the magical properties of Dragons and their values to the craft of magic. She was given a Dragon egg by her mother as a gift for her 7th birthday, and it hatched on her 21st birthday. She has since grown attached to the creature, protecting it from harm in the hopes of understanding what the bond between human and dragon can achieve.

History: As an egg, Rai was purchased by Yumi's mother for a small fortune and given to her daughter due to her fascination with the species and her studies of dragons. Although wary at first, he has formed an attachment to Yumi and considers her to be like a mother. Although he is only young, Rai is capable of short bursts of flight and a small amount of thunder breath.

History: Farrow is a young man who never really cared much for dragons, being more afraid of them than most after the stories of Drekavac's attacks - until he found an egg stuck in the murky waters that were near his home when he was 6 years old. It hatched near his 15th birthday, and proved to be a wonderful companion. He practices archery, although he's not very good if you ask Andruil.

At first, she was very aggressive towards him, but she warmed up to him and they formed a sibling-like bond. She is still young, but her wings can carry her and she can breathe poisonous gas like a champ.

As darkness shrouded over the land, a certain young man snuck out of the village he called home and into the murky waters of the swamp. His steps were as quiet as a mouse, having walked this path many, many times before. "You're here, right, Andruil?" He murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. He was answered by a black and purple flash tackling him, pushing him into the water. Unable to help himself, he let out a loud laugh and pushed against the dragon's chest. "Get off of me, c'mon...!"
"You're late, you know." Andruil replied, stepping backwards and swishing her tail around to pull him up. Farrow rolled his eyes as he stood up, his clothes soggy, digging into his soaked backpack to pull out a few apples. "It's harder to hide you now that you're so...big. I don't want anyone finding out about you!" He scoffed, throwing the apples one by one into the air for Andruil to catch gracefully, as she always did.
"If I was a fire dragon, I would roast them all, just so you know." She muttered, licking her scaled lips after gulping down the apples whole. Farrow scoffed, rolling his eyes. "Somehow I doubt that you're that cruel."
Far from their small sanctuary, deep within a mountain was an evil that would sweep over the land soon enough. Hunting down the dragons in the land...those that escaped the wrath of their predecessors decades ago, that was the duty of the Purifiers - to rid the land of the dragonkin that would rather destroy the world than share it. Stepping out of the mouth of the cave, a young girl crossed her arms, letting out a sigh. One day she would see the world that her masters wished to destroy.

Rai had been made to stay in the basement of Yumi's small house. It wasn't much, but it was better by far than being hunted for his body parts. Yumi had known the dragon for most of her life, though the dragon had only known her in the few years since it had emerged from its egg. As it did, it had crackled and shook with lightning. Yumi decided to name the creature 'Rai' as a result of this.
"I wonder," Rai mused to his owner, "what was it like in the before times? In the times when my kind walked freely from the fear of death?"
Yumi had no perfect answer for him. She saw dragons as being of noble blood. Not something you hunted to materials or even worse...sport.
